MODULE 1- Understanding your Anatomy & Physiology including the Pelvic Floor and Core, and how Pelvic Health Physiotherapy can benefit you. This module will form the foundation for the modules that follow as you will have a deeper understanding of your body, which will enhance your connection to your body.
MODULE 2 - Understanding your changing body during pregnancy, learning daily exercises that can help ease your pains and improve your movements, and knowing that you have power and choice over your birth preferences. Includes a downloadable birth preference template as well as home and hospital birth checklists to make it easier for you. As a BONUS, you have access to a sample 3-Day Pregnancy Meal Plan created by Jennifer Linton, CNP from Jennuine Holistic Nutrition and a 10 minute prenatal yoga practice by Sherry.
MODULE 3 - Connecting to your Mind AND Body, and learning strategies to prepare your Mind and Body for labour and birth. These techniques will also serve you well during postpartum journey. This module includes mindfulness practice, breathing strategies for labour and birth, stretches to prepare your pelvis for birth, and perineal massage. Your BONUS includes a downloadable guided pelvic healing meditation and pregnancy meditation, along with a printer friendly birth affirmations.
MODULE 4 - Understanding the normal labour and birth process which can ease your fears and anxieties of "the unknown", learning strategies to help encourage labour to start, and knowing the various labour and birth positions that can improve birth outcomes and help with your postpartum recovery. BONUS Hand-outs for labour and birth positions are included for easier access.
MODULE 5 - Understanding pain and expected sensations that may arise during labour and birth. Learning what you and your birth partner can do to support you, with specific hands-on techniques, such as acupressure and counterpressure, that can increase your comfort. In this module you will also learn about the medical pain management options. BONUS pain reducing hand-outs including acupressure, rebozo and counterpressure.
MODULE 6 - Becoming aware of the potential interventions that may take place during labour and birth so that you are confidently informed and a part of the decision making process. This module includes topics such as perineal trauma, such as tearing and episiotomy, cesarean birth, and vaginal birth after cesarean (VBAC).
MODULE 7 - Learning newborn procedures and how to care for your little one, including the importance of skin to skin contact between you and your babe, as well as infant feeding, bathing, sleep, and warning signs. MODULE 8 - Postpartum recovery plan to enhance your healing. This is often missed in most prenatal and childbirth education classes, and is an essential part of this course. Sherry Heenan

Hi there, I'm Sherry. I’ve been a practicing physiotherapist since 2009 with a Masters Degree in Physical Therapy from the University of Toronto and an undergraduate degree in Kinesiology from McMaster University. I take pride in my work and am passionate about empowering and helping individuals achieve their activity and wellness goals. I’m a highly trained, registered Physiotherapist and provide an array of comprehensive services within my field. After being pregnant and having two beautiful children of my own, I developed a special interest in pelvic health physiotherapy, and became passionate about the perinatal population. I want all women who are going through their pregnancy, birth, or postpartum journey to feel confident and empowered. I continue to further educate myself by taking numerous courses ,including childbirth education and doula training, so that I am equipped to provide the most up to date information for my clients and to be able to support them fully on their journey.     Because it contains in-depth knowledge regarding pregnancy, birth, and postpartum from an experienced Mom of two, Registered Pelvic Health Physiotherapist, Childbirth Educator & PhysioDoula designed just FOR YOU! As you will notice, there are two modules dedicated to your Postpartum journey, because you have shared with me that you want more information on that topic. I have also included lots of information that you can do in pregnancy to help increase your chances of an easier birth and improve your outcomes postpartum.

  • Do I still need to take an in-person prenatal course?

    You do not need to take an in-person course but it is helpful to review and practice all the techniques learned in this course.

  • Will I have access to this course if I have another baby?

    Yes, you have lifetime access to this course.

  • What if I only have a few weeks left of my pregnancy?

    You can complete the course in _____ hours giving you lots of time to prepare for birth. I do recommend starting this course as early as you can to give you time to practice and review the material.

  • If I'm already seeing a Pelvic Health Physiotherapist do I still need to take this course?

    Yes. Seeing a Pelvic Health Physio and completing this course will prepare your Mind and Body for the best possible birth and postpartum outcomes.
